Born with a natural ear for music, love for beats and a passion for mixing, Kasmario Thulani Ike Fankis, best known as Kasango, thrives in all thing's music. Hailing from Welkom, a small town in the Free State, South Africa, Kasango knew that music was what he needed to do. At the age of 16 he discovered House Music, instantly fell in love and so the journey began. Inspired by many South African House DJs who had found wider recognition on the world stage, His appetite for consuming music became obsession.
‘Growing up in South Africa was awesome because I got to experience dance music from all over the world and dive into different subgenres. In 2006, I got hit hard by the music bug and knew I wanted to be part of the music scene somehow. The game-changer for me was in 2009 when I saw Black Coffee perform in my hometown, that's when I knew I wanted to be a DJ.’
Fast forward to 2019, Kasango's debut song ‘One Night’ featuring Jamie Fallon Smith was featured on Black Coffee's Appreciation Mix For 2019, winning him much praise and recognition from his peers within the scene. He went on to produce hit songs like ‘Osama’ ft grammy award winning artist Zakes Bantwini earning him the much coveted BBC Radio One Essential New Tune by Pete Tong. The support continued over the last few years since that release, with Pete Tong awarding him another ENT in November 2024 for his brilliant remix of London band TMPLE.
A truly global DJ playing shows in every continent, Kasango has a smile and musical selection that emits his passion behind the decks and reaches far beyond the booth and the dance floor.
